The cost of plastic surgery varies based on the individual nature of each procedure, the hospital and anaesthetic provider involved, and whether the procedure is classified as cosmetic or medically indicated. The information below sets out our consultation fees, surgery pricing approach, payment policies, and booking arrangements.

A precise quotation can only be issued after Dr Hertess has personally assessed you in consultation. All pricing on this page is indicative and provided for planning purposes only.

Considering surgery? Please read Surgery Risks before proceeding. All surgical procedures carry risk. Results vary between individuals and depend on many factors including individual anatomy, healing response, age, lifestyle, and adherence to pre- and post-operative instructions.

Consultation Fees

A consultation with Dr Hertess is the first step before any surgical procedure. It allows for a full clinical assessment, discussion of your goals, and the issuing of a personalised written quotation.

Consultation TypeFeeMedicare Rebate*
Plastic Surgery Consultation$300$86.15
Skin Lesion Consultation$200$86.15

*Medicare rebates are available only to patients who hold a valid Medicare card and present a current GP referral at the time of consultation. The rebate amount shown is current as at 18/05/2026 and is subject to change by the Australian Government without notice. Rebates are processed on the day of consultation, leaving you with the out-of-pocket gap.

Pre-payment is required to secure your consultation booking. Please refer to our Consultation Cancellation Policy below.

Surgery Pricing

Plastic surgery pricing varies significantly between patients, even for the same named procedure. Final pricing depends on factors that can only be properly assessed in person, including:

  • Your individual anatomy and clinical presentation
  • Surgical complexity and operating time required
  • Implant or prosthetic device selection (where applicable)
  • Hospital choice and length of stay
  • Anaesthetic duration

For this reason, Dr Hertess does not publish fixed surgery prices. A personalised written quotation is issued to each patient following consultation, ensuring the figure you receive reflects your specific case rather than a generic estimate.

What Your Written Quotation Will Include

When you receive your written quotation, it will set out the total estimated cost of your surgery on an all-inclusive basis. This typically covers:

  • Dr Hertess’s surgeon’s fee
  • Hospital or facility fee
  • Anaesthetist fee estimate
  • Implants or prosthetic devices (where applicable)
  • Surgical garments and standard post-operative supplies
  • 12 months of routine post-operative follow-up appointments

The following are generally not included and may incur additional cost: extended hospital stays, additional surgery, pathology, prescription medications, revision procedures, and premium implant or device upgrades. Your quotation will clearly identify any specific exclusions relevant to your procedure.

How Your Quotation Is Prepared

Following your consultation, Dr Hertess assesses the surgical complexity and estimated theatre time required for your procedure. We then request fee estimates from your assigned hospital and anaesthetic group based on this assessment, and combine these with the surgeon’s fee to produce your written quotation.

The quotation you receive reflects accurate fees for your specific case as advised by each provider at the time of quoting. In most cases, your final cost will match your quotation.

However, please be aware that some intra-operative factors can result in additional charges that are not reflected in the original quotation. These may include:

  • Anaesthetic time running longer than anticipated
  • Additional surgical steps determined necessary during the procedure
  • An extended hospital stay if clinically required for recovery

Any such variation is invoiced by the hospital or anaesthetist directly to you and is not within Dr Hertess Plastic Surgery’s control.

How Hospital and Anaesthetist Fees Are Billed

While your quotation provides a total estimated figure for budgeting purposes, hospital and anaesthetist fees are billed and paid separately to those providers, not to Dr Hertess Plastic Surgery. Further details on timing and process are set out in the Hospital and Anaesthetist Fees section below.

Discussing Costs Before Consultation

We understand patients often want to budget for surgery before booking a consultation. If you would like to discuss what your procedure might involve financially, our patient coordination team is happy to talk you through the cost structure and the factors that influence final pricing. Please note that a confirmed price cannot be provided without a clinical assessment by Dr Hertess.

To speak with our patient coordination team, please contact us or call (07) 5601 0492.

A Note on Medically Indicated Procedures

Some procedures performed by Dr Hertess may be classified as medically indicated rather than cosmetic. Eligibility for Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item numbers and private health fund cover is determined by strict clinical criteria and is assessed on a case-by-case basis during consultation.

Important: Subsidy figures (including Medicare and private health fund rebates) are estimates only. These rates may change without notice and are beyond our control. Actual prices cannot be accurately provided until you have been examined by the surgeon. Any additional surgery, additional nights in hospital, medication, or pathology will incur extra charges not reflected in the estimate.

Hospital and Anaesthetist Fees

While your written quotation will provide a total all-inclusive cost estimate, hospital and anaesthetist fees are billed and paid separately to those providers, not to Dr Hertess Plastic Surgery.

Hospital Fees

Dr Hertess operates across multiple accredited private hospitals. Hospital payment terms vary by facility:

HospitalHospital Payment Due
John Flynn Private HospitalOn admission
Pindara Private HospitalOn admission
Cairns Private HospitalOn admission
Miami Private HospitalOne week prior to surgery

Hospital fees and payment policies are set independently by each facility and are subject to change. Please contact the hospital directly to confirm current fee estimates and admission requirements.

Anaesthetist Fees

Each anaesthetist or anaesthetic group operates independently and will invoice you directly. Invoices are typically issued within the seven days prior to surgery, though in some cases may be sent after your surgery date. If you would like to confirm an anaesthetic fee estimate in advance, please contact your assigned anaesthetist directly.

Private Health Insurance

If you hold private health insurance, we recommend contacting your health fund before booking to:

  • Confirm coverage for your specific procedure
  • Determine any excess payable on admission
  • Ensure your level of cover is adequate for the planned operation

Coverage varies considerably between funds and policy levels, particularly for procedures with both cosmetic and medical indications.

Booking a Surgery Date

To secure a position on Dr Hertess’s operating list:

  • A non-refundable booking deposit of $1,000 is required at the time of booking
  • This deposit is separate from any booking fees paid to a third party (such amounts will appear as a discount on your written quotation)
  • The remainder of the surgeon’s fee is due 14 days prior to your surgery date
  • If full payment is not received by this deadline, your booking will be removed from the operating list

Cooling-Off Periods

In accordance with Australian regulatory requirements for cosmetic surgery, the following cooling-off periods apply:

Consultation Cooling-Off Period

A seven (7) day cooling-off period applies before a surgery deposit or booking fee can be paid. This period commences at the conclusion of your consultation. We are unable to hold a surgery date or accept a booking deposit during the first 7 days after your consultation.

Surgery Cooling-Off Period

After your booking deposit is paid, a three (3) clear business day cooling-off period applies to your surgery agreement. You may cancel your surgery within this window by notifying our practice in writing. A full refund of payments made will be issued, less a $50.00 administration fee.

Surgery Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your surgery after the surgery cooling-off period (which commences the day your deposit is paid), 20% of the surgeon’s fee will be retained.

Individual circumstances will be carefully considered before any cancellation fee is applied.

Consultation Cancellation Policy

Due to limited appointment availability, we ask that you confirm your appointment one week beforehand. Otherwise, we may need to release the appointment to another patient.

Once confirmed, the full quoted appointment fee will be charged if you cancel or do not attend.
